Ovenden Papers are a successful independent paper merchant based in Essex. Ovenden pride themselves their independence, which they say "best equips us to react to the ever-changing needs of the market place".

As a leading member of AIMS Ovenden's has access to some of the worlds leading paper manufacturers which allows us to competitively source high quality products from first class suppliers.

The challenge

Over the years the paper trade has become increasingly dominanted by a few large organisations, making it difficult for the independent paper merchant to compete on both price and, more importantly, on service.

Ovenden had seen the quality of documentation (price lists, quotes, delivery notes etc.,) from the larger merchants and felt that the current software solution was not offering the same quality.

Also, it was being increasingly important to ensure stock levels were kept at an appropriate levels. Over ordering means valueable warehouse space would be wasted. Under ordering could result in loss of business.

The solution

Working very closely with Ovenden Papers we have produced an application aimed specifically at paper merchants. It has all the things you would expect from a business application along with some very powerful tools that enable Ovenden to compete at the highest level.

Comprehensive customer specific price lists can be produced in minutes (Ovenden have over 10,000 different stock lines on their system) along with .csv versions for printer estimating systems.

Stock re-ordering means warehousing space is utilised correctly, which has become increasingly important as orders have increased.

The benefits
Before Cortec, Ovenden had a track record of changing IT suppliers approximately every five years. Five years after Ovenden initial go-live continue to strive forward with Cortec seeing new ways to compete. Recent changes have meant that reps now have simple, yet powerful, tools to amend customer prices. Managers can see reasons for these changes and their impacts on margins.
